Day 01:
We'll start out after breakfast, heading south-east on the Pan-American Highway. As we climb into the hills, you will enjoy marvelous views of green mountains dotted with potato and carrot plantations, dairy farms, etc. This region has been researched for years by our most dedicated naturalist experts, who have discovered a rare ecological niche in which the Quetzal may be found year round. We'll arrive at Trogón Lodge in just 2 hours.
During the day, you will have a chance to explore the area and experience the local habitat and culture. These highlands are the natural habitat to an immense diversity of flora and avifauna. Some, including the Cipresillo (Oak tree: querqus costarricense) are endemic, found only in this part of the world. You will also see hundreds of species of bromelias, lichen, moss, ferns, and a multitude of orchids and colorful flowers such as guesneracias. In addition to the elusive Quetzal, you will find the unique silky fly-catcher, the coppery headed emerald hummingbird, the cerise-throated hummingbird, and the peg-billed finch, all endemic to the area. |
Day
02:
After breakfast you can stroll the beautiful Trogon grounds,
walk the nature trails or just relax with the soothing sound
of the nearby river. After lunch, we'll have some more time
to relax and admire this heavenly environment, before setting
out to return to central plateau. On the way back to San José,
we will drive through Costa Rica's original capital city of
Cartago, founded by the Spanish in 1564 and including the
shrine of the nation's saint, our Lady of the Angels. You
