Itinerary:
We will start out early, heading south-east on the Pan-American Highway. Enjoy the marvelous view as we climb green mountains dotted with potato and carrot plantations, dairy farms, and more. In less than two hours, you will be sitting down to a traditional breakfast at Trogón Lodge.
After breakfast, we will head straight for the nature trails. These highlands are the natural habitat for an immense diversity of flora and avifauna. Some species, like the Cipresillo oak (querqus costarricense) are endemic, found only in this part of the world. You will also discover hundreds of species of bromelias, lichen, moss, ferns, and a multitude of orchids and other colorful flowers.
In addition to the legendary Quetzal, you will see the unique silky fly-catcher, the copper-headed emerald hummingbird, the cerise-throated hummingbird, and the peg billed finch, all endemic species. |
After lunch, you'll have time to relax and admire the heavenly environment before the return to the Central Valley. On the way back to San José, we will pass through Costa Rica's first capital city of Cartago, founded by Spanish settlers in 1564, and home of the shrine of our nation's patron saint, our Lady of the Angels. You will arrive at your San José hotel just in time for dinner.
