I am curious about Registered Nursing jobs in Costa Rica ... maybe around Liberia. Not San Jose. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Learning some Spanish right now, & I specialize in Pediatircs & teach BLS & PALS. I heard maybe some Americans were building a hospital near a resort? |

Your questions have been asked and answered in this and every other forum about CR so many, many times....please take the time to read the FAQs on this forum, and some of the others. The short answer is "forget it." Think about it: if we in the US have a nursing shortage, and we have been going to places like Great Britain, the Philippines, and Mexico to try to recruit nurses, and if those places have been able to provide us with nurses, whatever would make you think that a place like CR would have work for an American nurse? First, the pay scale in CR is miniscule compared to what you can make anywhere else in the world, and second, they have very well trained Costa Rican nurses ready, willing, and able to work in their country. Costa Rica does not want non-citizens to work in their country! Maybe a good place for you to start would be here: http://forums.arcr.net/ |

Thanx 4 the info, I hope I didn't hear a really negative attitude in your response, just 4 me posing the question. I have no idea how many times this question has been posed, but now I ask, why is it being asked so much ? I have visited the country & enjoy it, the culture & people. I want 2 make a positive change in my life which would not only benefit me, but reflect on those that I would bring my education, experience & caring to. It is not about the money. It's about change & positive experiences. The United States has issues w/a nursing shortage yes, & that could go into a whole other forum ! Maybe you should ask yourself why would an American nurse want to work outside of this country ? If we have illegal workers coming into our country for the reasons I have stated, why couldn't I immerse myself in another culture & do the same ? Legally. That's why I'm asking the question. Check out bomberosinternational.com. Something like that I'm looking for, but in nursing. Thanks for your time. |

Let me see if I understand this: you don't need the money, so you want to go to CR and volunteer your services. Pardon me, but I detect a bit of a superior attitude in your statement that says: "that I would bring my education, experience & caring to..." My point is still that Costa Rica has very well trained, educated, and experienced nurses already present in their country, who actually speak Spanish. The web site to which I referred you provides a good explanation of why you cannot go there seeking employment, and I'm afraid that is what I thought you were asking about in your first post, no? I mean, you did say "Registred Nursing jobs," did you not? That is different from volunteerism, and charity work, is it not? Please try to remember that CR does not want gringas or gringos coming into their country and taking jobs away from their citizens! ------------------ |

HAVE YOU LIVED ANYWHERE OUTSIDE U.S. IN YOUR LIFE? ARE YOU WILLING TO GO TRY ANOTHER COUNTRY'S WAY OF LIFE FOR LESS MONEY? I SUPPORT WHAT PURAVIDA IS TRYING TO DO.
PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE REALLY BRAVE ON WEB BOARDS. I'D LIKE TO HAVE YOU SAY THAT TO MY FACE-BUT I KNOW PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE NOT BRAVE ENOUGH. BESIDES, I'D JUST PUNCH YOU IN YOUR CODDLED, SELF RIGHTEOUS AMERICAN MOUTH, AND YOU WOULD RUN A WAY AND CALL THE COPS AND ASK THE GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT YOU. JOHN, GO **** YOURSELF. PRICK. Billy, there are so many things that I could say to you right now, but I know that most of them would be a total waste of effort. You certainly may attempt to settle any and all disagreements, or imagined slights against your questionable integrity, with violence, and you may even put your victims in a hospital, but at the end of the day, my friend, those laws that you apparently eschew, will deal with you. If you are, indeed, so brave, why is it that you have included no personal information on your profile? When you signed up to post your invective on this forum, you had ample opportunity to provide us with your real name (gee, it is not listed), your location, and information about your interests. You did not do so, and one can only conclude that you are hiding something besides your inadequate powers of reasoning. You have no knowledge of me other than what I have either written in my posts to this (and other forums), or included in my personal profile. So, who do you think you are to hide behind your anonymity attacking me with your foul and childish language? You certainly have the right to disagree with me, and even the right to tell me so, but that is all you have. Furthermore, if you are so knowledgeable about this subject, why don't you provide puravida5 with some helpful information? Why don't YOU tell her where she can work (legally) as a nurse in Costa Rica? Why don't YOU tell her HOW she can legally obtain work as an RN in Costa Rica? And, if you are, indeed, an ex-pat, why didn't you say exactly where in Costa Rica it is that you live? Oh, and make sure you provide her with all of the contact information that she would need (like names, phone numbers, and so on) in order to find employment (presuming, of course, that she has permanent residence, and permission to work there). |

Like it or not,JDO is correct. First you would need to qualify to be a resident then you would need to show that there was a shortage of nurses which there is not. Most non-tico residents are not allowed to work here. Check out http://www.casacanada.net/english.html to get valid information. This board has too many people who aren't too reliable. Caio, Ed |

TO: jdocop, YOU ARE EXTREMELY RUDE in case you did not know it! My daughter lives in Costa Rica- Esterillas, and we have many friends in Costa Rica. I will be living there intermittently myself soon. My daughter and her father in law run a large 5 star resort in Puntarens, CR. I can guarantee you that people there would NOT want someone like you retiring there. There are very friendly and helpful prople. Not hateful and arrogant. I am a registered nurse as well. I do know that I would not work there because of the pay. I can work here three months, and live there the next 6 months without working. Why would I want to work? To the nurse- just do what I am, work on a travel assignment in the US for a few months, take the money and go live in Costa Rica. Unless of course you want extravagant living. My American daughter has had no trouble finding homes to live in for free, to watch other American's vacation homes for them. They will even pay you to stay there. I am sure if that rude JDCOP guy is ever in CR on a beach or somewhere, needing emergency medical attention or CPR, and you happen to be in the immediate vicinity, he actually MIGHT THINK about respecting your experience and education...... but i doubt it, he would probably rather die. |

Wow! How did I miss that cheap shot from Jeepchick? Pray tell what is so rude about trying to warn people not to break the law? I think your advice to that nurse is worthwhile (work as many months of the year as you need to, in the states, save your money, and then go play in CR)....but, her question had to do with asking people to condone her intention of working illegally, and that is something I most certainly am not going to do! And, for your information, I happen to be a Registered Nurse, as well, and I already have a place to live in Costa Rica. I, however, intend to live there full time, and totally legally. It is all very wonderful for your daughter and her father-in-law to be running a 5-star resort (in Puntarenas?? I doubt it very seriously. Last I heard, Costa Rica might have one, or at most, two true 5-Star facilities, and neither of them is in Puntarenas!) But, if she is running a 5-star facility, why would she need free rent? And, if she does, indeed, accept money from anyone in CR for "performing such a service, that sounds suspiciously like someone who is not legal, but, rather, a "perpetual tourist." As for whether or not the folks around Puntarenas would want me living in their midst, I could not care less. That is not a part of CR that any knowledgeable person would choose for their retirement, and I suspect there are not that many perpetual tourists there, either (which is probably part of how your daughter is able to get away with what she is doing. So, you go right on ahead and consider me to be rude. At least I am not breaking any laws, and I am not encouraging others to do so! |

jdocop, how do you know that we want illegals in our country, USA, taking AMERICAN jobs. If puravida5 wants to go to CR, let her, it is not hurting you one bit. I totally support puravida5 decision. Go sit under a log please. |
