My first visit to this site. Looking forward to aquiring some information.
My wife and I are vacationing in Playa Hermosa for the month of March 2009.
We've never been to Costa Rica before and would appreciate some suggestions on things to do and also things to avoid.
We are both around 60 years old and like to do a lot of walking, mingling with the locals, trying local foods and I do lkike to try local drinks.
Any sugestons from seasoned CR visitors?
Thanks

TR:

I'm glad to hear you'll be visiting us in the Playa Hermosa Jaco Beach area in March 2009.

Playa Hermosa is very quiet and is primarily a surfers town. The choices of Restaurants in Play Hermosa is limited, howvever Jaco is only 10 minutes away by car/taxi. There you will find an abundance of Restaurants to choose from offering a wide variety of Authentic Costa Rican foods as well as international cuisines.

There are many souviner stores in Jaco as well as 3 Major Grocery stores, Casinos, pharmacies, Ice Cream shops, and a lot to see and do.

You should also plan to take a day trip/tour to Manuel Antonio National Park & Wildlife Reserve, located just an hour South of Hermosa. There you'll see an lot of Costa Rican Wildlife like Monkeys, Sloths, Pizotes, Iguanas, Frogs, Bats, and a lot more.

You are welcome to contact me at info@hookedoncostarica.com and I'll get you set up with a great tour operator that offers great prices and the highest quality tours.

What's nice about Hermosa is that it is very quiet and private, but yet there is plenty of excitement, shopping, dining, and activties just a few minutes away in Jaco.

consider moving around if you'll be there for A month.you definitely will get miffed with the Jaco area quickly.it is A dope paradise and many dealers and users walking the streets.robbing is A constant issue.and police enforcement is nil.they try but to no real avail.
and alot of folks are flesh merchants in that area and disguise themselves rather well.
I'd do some research of A spiritual sort to find the other areas that would be of more practical interest. you seem to want to do the mother earth walkabout.
try the tree of life foundation.A man named Jananda is connected in the way you may be seeking.

TW,

Be aware there are 2 Playa Hermosa's in Costa Rica. Which one will you be visiting? I have just returned from Playa Hermosa in Northern Guanacaste region. (Not the one the other reply referenced.)

My companion and I are 55 and 62. We rented a 4 X 4 and drove from San Juan airport. This gave us the opportunity to explore a lot of the countryside. There were a few 'moments' I was a little worried until I got used to the roads, and no street signs. But my friend was great with the GPS so no real worries.

CR is a lovely place. The people were warm and friendly. I hope you and your wife have a wonderful time.

All times are CT
