Hi everyone!
My husband and I are travelling to Costa Rica for the first time this May. We are staying at the Allegro Papagayo outside of Guanacaste. Has anyone stayed at this resort before? What did you think of it? Also, can anyone tell me if we should get any kind of innoculations before we go to Costa Rica? I read on the Dept. of State website that we should take Malaria antibiotics. Does everyone do this? Is it necessary. The website also said you should do this for Mexico, and we have travelled to Mexico eight times and never needed anything. What are eveyone's opinions on this matter. We could also use some suggestions for tours in this area. We definitely want to go deep sea fishing. Can anyone recommend a good tour group for this? We also want to take the Mega tour that does the zip line through the canopy, the horseback ride, and the hot springs. Again, a tour group recommendation? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for all of your help in advance!!! (BTW, we are in our early thirties, and love adventure, nature and the water if this helps!!)

Hi Mellie, we are going to CR in June and you absolutly do not need any shots of any kind. I know friends who frequent there and they say the same thing. If we listened to our helth depts we would leak with all the shots they perscribe.
I hope that helps with the first of your questions.

GOOD LUCK

Hi Mellie,

I have been heading down to CR for about 6 years @ 2-3x a year. Never got shots and neve had a problem. Bug spray only needed if your a "Magnet". There are some stinging insects so you may want to be prepped for that if you are allergic. I "Used" to Guanacaste alot and it is very buitifull - but it has grown too touristy for me - I have a house now on the Osa Peninsula now! Hope that helps and have a great trip!

Hello i have some suggestions for tours in this area.
1 Palo Verde National Park is a wildlife sanctuary. Scientists from all over the world come to study this rich ecosystem that combines rivers, marshland, mangroves and dry forest.
Our river cruise will take us on the Tempisque River, the most important one in Guanacaste, at the time of admiring the natural beauty of this park and looking for crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas and thousands of birds that migrate to Palo Verde.
Full day tour including English speaking guide, lunch, and boat ride.
2 ARENAL VOLCANO & COTER RAIN FOREST

A visit to Coter Rain Forest Reserve will introduce you to the wonders of the rain forest. One of the most complex ecosystems on earth. Our naturalist tour guide will point out the most interesting plants and trees during our 45 minutes hike. Early afternoon we will continue to the Tabacon Hot Springs, where over 8 pools filled with hot spring water set in the most beautiful tropical gardens will relax our body and soul.
3 INOCENTES HORSEBACK RIDING

Los Inocentes ecological Ranch is the best place to ride a horse while we look for animals. This special horseback ride through the jungle will not only make you feel like a rancher, but also the nature lover in you will awake to the most incredible sites of the rain forest. Keep an eye out for toucans, wild parrots, monkeys, sloths and other mammals as we ride through the jungle at the bottom of the Orosi Volcano.
4 CANOPY TOUR

This is the time to see the forest like you have never seen it before. From the top of these ancestral trees and by mixing yourself with the incredible life of the tropical forest your adventure will begin. There are 840 meters of cable between the forest from tree to tree where you will hang as a monkey with a harness and safety equipment discovering the forest from a totally different point of view. A 100% adrenaline experience worth to discover.

Dear Mellie,

Good luck on your trip! I have stayed there and it is absolutely beautiful! It is one of those all inclusive places that will have tours, beaches and bars. You can pretty much do everything through them.

If you want to go out on your own. Visit www.GoSeeCR.com. They have information on all of the activities you listed with tour providers and more! For deep sea fishing check out www.palmarnorte.com for the marine forecast! Enjoy your trip!

Sincerely,
