I've been looking at the weather for Costa Rica as we'll be traveling there may19th - 31st.In my research I had read that May-November was the rainy season (or as they put it, the "green" season). I had read somewhere though that what that meant was that you could have a down pour in the morning and the rest of the day was fine. Or that you could have a mid afternoon storm and go back to warm/sunny weather. Is this true? i keep looking at the weather channel and it says 'scattered thunderstorms" for EVERY DAY! When I look at the hour-by-bour option it predicts thunderstorms every hour. Can someone shed some light on what "rainy/green season" really means? I'm so nervous that my honeymoon will be a HUGE flop because of the weather. |

It really depends where you will be traveling within the country. It's entirely possible that you will have many days with no rain at all.Try not to rely too much on weathercasts! Just like florida, they are rarely accurate. for the most part, it will rain in the afternoon and be sunny all morning. Relax...it's a wonderful experience, even in the rain. |

For a little more information we're going to be spending the first 10 days of our trip near Manuel Antonio National Park and then going inland to the Arenal Volcano. |

What Tucana told you still applies.....you must remember that CR is about the size of the state of West Virginia, but has five distinct micro-climates. In other words, if you don't like the weather wherever you are, drive a short distance, and it will change. And, for the most part, consider this: If you are in a rain forest, it won't matter whether it is the rainy season or not. They don't call it a rain forest for nothing, you know......and, always remember, in most parts of the country, rain falls in the morning (and, it is not always a downpour - again, it depends on where you are), and most afternoons it clears...... |
