Has anyone driven from San Jose airport to Playa Hermosa, GUANACASTE ? I arrive at 11:45 a.m. and wonder if I can get there before dark. I've read 3 - 5 hours, and wonder if anyone has experience. Also if anyone is familiar with the Condovac area, can you recommen easy day trips? Mucho Gracias! |

We have driven the reverse from Condovac La Costa to San Jose airport and it's pretty close to 5 hours. The distance isn't that great, but the roads are pretty much two lane and the speed limits are very low and change frequently. Easy day trips- Buena Vista Lodge is north of Liberia by half an hour or so and is a great place to spend the day. We did canopy tour, slide down the mountain in an intertube and through the jungle, rode horses into the jungle to the pool area ( 4 or 5 pools of different temps because of the thermals from volcano), mud bath and walk to a beautiful waterfall. The website is www.buenavistacr.com and we thoroughly enjoyed...toucans, blue morpho butterflies, etc. We spent a lot of time just driving around. The roads are not like here to say the least. They have small 4 wheel drive and I highly recommend that vs. a car. Lots of small and interesting towns.....Tamarindo, Playa del Coco, etc. Try the unusual and wonderful fruits. Excellent restaurants everywhere you turn and many types of cuisines. Absolutely recommend venturing beyond the resort for food....wonderful variety. Playa Hermosa is a beautiful beach. We travel quite a lot and in our opinion one of the most beautiful beaches...great for ocean kayaking...very peaceful. People are very kind and friendly. As with anywhere these days, do lock your car and don't leave valuables inside. We enjoyed the Condovac....outdated furnishings,etc. but very clean and the views and location made it an excellent choice for us. Have lots of fun....a great country for adventure!!!! We're hoping to hop down again in the next month!!! Text |
