Assuming you are serious about your arrival date, I'd say there's only one thing to plan on doing: go to midnight Mass. Frankly, based on your question (and, without knowing anything about you) I would guess that you have never been to CR, so you are not aware that the whole country pretty much shuts down over the holidays. In other words, you will find many places simply closed, as families take time off, and spend their time with family. You will find those who can afford it at the beach, and otherwise, San Jose will be very quiet, and seemingly deserted. |

In some communities, neighbors go from house to house sampling Tamales ( Costa Rica style are the BEST) and drinking coffee, admiring the Portal (which every family takes pride in creating---all different)It would be great if you could be included in this, but I'm thinking if you are in San Jose proper, you might not have the opportunity..But John is right! Go to Midnight Mass, enjoy the music and the fellowship. Tucana |

Go to a beach, there you can entertain yourselves and enjoy what should be nice weather by then. It might be a problem getting hotel reservations this late. Buy any liquor ahead of time as the liquor stores and supermarkets can't sell it to you then. Good luck, Ed |
