hi,i'm a 26 year old canadian interested in escaping canadian winters for the rest of my life. i've lived in belize before & guatemala a bit but never went further south than that.. i've heard tons of great things about CR. i'm interested in buying some land and building on it. ideally i'd be an hour or two outside the city, (further if that's what's necessary for peace and quiet). i'd like to be no more than 15-20 minutes from a good beach or a good lake where i can swim daily. i've got about $100k to spend, but the less the better. i'm not fussy about location as long as it's near a place where i can swim and i'm not near very many people. i'd be there about three months out of the year. i plan on making a lot of noise while i'm there, so i don't want neighbors nearby. i don't really care much for a luxury house, but i'd like to build something modest so having access to electricity/water would be great. i'm also fine with building a house that's completely solar powered. anyway this is my first foray into CR research so i apologize if this has been heard a thousand times beforehand. i'll keep looking stuff up. if anyone can suggest a beautiful place to look into that has what i want, that would be fantastic. if anyone else can give me approximate costs to build that would be cool too. also it'd be awesome to be able to buy a large chunk of land and preserve almost all of it. thanks ds |

dsec1: I'm sorry, but the answers to your questions aren't going to be found here, or on any other forum. If you have not yet visited CR, that should be your first step. Go, see, talk to people, and look around. I am sure that you can still find lots or larger parcels of land close to beaches, but the closer they are, the more expensive they will be. inho, land close to the beaches has been overpriced for at least 8 years. There is, indeed, a large fresh water lake that is not easily accessible for swimming, or any other water activity (Laguna Arenal), and there are any number of rivers, but as for land close by, and the availability of utilities, you will for sure have to go in person. |

hi,i'll be down there around feb or march i think, so i am planning to check things out for myself. suggestions on places to check out would still be helpful. i understand the need to see things for yourself, but it can't hurt to arrive as prepared as possible. i'm sure somebody on this forum knows of a place for sale that is nice. |
